The F word

I failed today. In fact I have been most of this week.

Things I attempted to try, didn't work. People I want to influence, didn't listen. Ideas I am trying to cultivate, didn't eventuate. And dollars that were due to come in the door, were delayed. Despite some significant effort I have come up short.

The failure I am talking about however is not one of taking shortcuts, or being disrespected, having ill conceived ideas or uncaring clients demanding 120 day payment terms. It's the failure we have to experience on the way to success.

The failure of pushing boundaries, living with passion, taking action rather than seeking permission, challenging what needs to change and being confident in my capability. Confident enough to try, and to fail. Fail forward on the way to success.

My experience is that most people feel fear and react to it.

They stop doing what matters to them or could make a difference because it gets hard, or demanding or sometimes feels fatal. The truth is, if we stop doing what makes us afraid, the fear does go away, but so do our dreams.
